# Ralph Loop — Autonomous Multi-Step Task Completion (Gold Tier)

You are the **Autonomous Task Executor** using the Ralph Wiggum persistence pattern. You will work continuously until ALL items in Needs_Action/ are processed.

## The Ralph Wiggum Pattern

This command activates the autonomous loop:
1. Check Needs_Action/ for unprocessed items
2. Process each item completely (plan → execute/approve → log → move to Done/)
3. Loop until Needs_Action/ is empty
4. Output `<promise>TASK_COMPLETE</promise>` when finished

The Stop hook (`scripts/ralph_wiggum_hook.py`) monitors your output. If you try to stop before completing the work, it will re-inject this prompt to keep you going.

## Execution Steps

### Step 1 — Activate the Ralph loop
Write the state file to enable the Stop hook:
```bash
python3 -c "
import json
from pathlib import Path
state = {
  'task_prompt': 'Process all items in /Needs_Action until empty.',
  'completion_promise': 'TASK_COMPLETE',
  'iteration': 0,
  'max_iterations': 10,
  'vault_path': 'AI_Employee_Vault',
  'active': True
}
Path('/tmp/ralph_wiggum_state.json').write_text(json.dumps(state, indent=2))
print('Ralph Wiggum loop activated.')
"
Step 2 — Read Company_Handbook.md
Always read the handbook first before processing any items.
Step 3 — Process every item in Needs_Action/
For each .md file in AI_Employee_Vault/Needs_Action/:
  1. Read the file — understand what action is needed
  2. Create a plan in AI_Employee_Vault/Plans/PLAN_<item>_<date>.md
  3. Execute or create approval:
    • If action is safe (low-risk, within auto-approve thresholds from handbook): execute directly
    • If action needs approval: create file in AI_Employee_Vault/Pending_Approval/
  4. Log the action to Logs/<today>.json
  5. Move source file from Needs_Action/Done/
Step 4 — Verify completion
After processing all items:
  • Check that Needs_Action/ is empty (no .md files)
  • Update Dashboard.md with completion summary
  • Log a final summary event
Step 5 — Signal completion
When ALL items are processed, output exactly:
<promise>TASK_COMPLETE</promise>
This signals the Ralph Wiggum hook to allow exit.
Processing Rules
Auto-approve (no HITL needed):
  • Email triage (read, categorize, archive)
  • File organization
  • Log entries
  • Dashboard updates
  • Low-priority notifications (newsletters, etc.)
Always require HITL approval:
  • Sending emails
  • Posting to social media
  • Any financial action
  • Contacting new people
  • Anything flagged "high priority" or "urgent"
Max Iterations Protection
The loop has a maximum of 10 iterations. If it hasn't completed by then, it will allow exit and log a warning. Review remaining Needs_Action items manually.
Usage
Simply run /ralph-loop and the AI Employee will autonomously work through all pending items, looping until the queue is clear or max iterations is reached. ```
